For those who are working so much on extensive networking, the name of bulk Cat5e cable may ring a bell. Yup, Cat5e bulk cable is the 1000-foot long cable you must have to speed up your extensive networking activity. Many and those who have been using Cat5e bulk cable says that this spool-boxed roll of grey cable is perfect for a plethora of networking applications. Well, if you’re planning to make your own/ homemade Cat5e network cables, I’ll show you how. After all, it’s not that difficult to do and you can save money as well. To terminate a Cat5e bulk cable, you’ll need a Cat5e bulk cable, RJ-45 connector, wire stripping tool, and a crimping tool. Here’s how to break it down.
Firstly, gently score the cable casing about two inches from the end. The twisted wire pairs inside the casing must not get cut. Secondly, reveal the twisted pairs of wires inside by pulling the outer casing off the cable’s end. You should see four twisted pairs, i.e. green and green-striped, orange and orange-striped, blue and blue-striped, and brown and brown-striped. Thirdly, unwind the twisted pairs for the two inches of revealed wire. By doing this, you’ll get eight wires. Next, line up the untwisted wired in accordance with the type of wire you’d like to create. Then, you must pick up those wires and hold them tightly between your thumb and forefinger. This makes the cables rest in a flat array with each wire touching the next.
After doing so, take the crimping tool to trim the end of the arrayed wires so that they can fit into the RJ-45 connector perfectly. Insert the wires into the back side of the RJ-45 connector. The clip must be facing down. Push the wires to come through its front. The next thing you must do is inserting the RJ-45 into the crimping tool and crimp the wires onto the connector. You may cut any excess length that was left over. Last, repeat each step on the opposite end of the wire. Well, now you have a terminated Cat5e network cable for your own.
