Let me start by saying I am a Mac person, but since Mac isn't making a netbook...yet...this seemed like a great option.
And it is - for Internet and e-mail; pictures and music. It's lightweight and extremely portable and comfortable to use. The touch-pad can make me a little crazy but the battery life is as described -- and I really appreciate that.
I really have no complaints about the hardware at all; like I said before I am a Mac and the PC interface makes me nuts. I am happy it is Windows XP and not Vista, so that's a plus.

I bought this netbook and find it to be very practical, user friendly, and it almost has all that a destop would have (with the exception of a cd/dvd drive), it's light weight, and has many of the features of a big laptop. The only thing that I will have to complain about, is the screen, the glare in the screen, makes it "sometimes" difficult to see the letters or pictures. But other than that, I will have to say that the price is right, the features very good, the battery life per charge is excellent it when 10 hours withou us having to conect it. Purchased this ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook for a Round The World trip. After doing lots of research on the various netbooks out there this was the most reasonable and had the best overall reviews.

I have had the laptop for 3 weeks now and I have had no trouble with the battery life or the charging process. However, two weeks in, the keyboard would sporadically stop working. I would type and it would not translate to the computer. The only way to fix it was to restart the computer. I thought it was a quirk, and continued using it. Over the course of the last week, this problem occurred 6 more times. Has anybody else had this issue?

I am sending the laptop back to Amazon, but ordering a new one. I am hoping that this is just a faulty laptop and not a faulty product. We'll see.

Discount ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 10.5 Hour Battery Life

First off, kudos to Asus for enabling a 2gb RAM upgrade. Microsoft are a tyrannical bunch, and, in case you didn't know, the reason netbooks are only enabled with 1gb of RAM. I ordered an improved speed 2gb stick (PC2 6400 Crucial) which has worked out fine. It actually seemed fast enough before I installed the new RAM, but the stick was a small price ($20). I might install Dreamweaver and Fireworx just to see if the netbook can handle it. I've run MS Excel, MS Office, Celtx, three tabs of Firefox, three tabs of IE, and had memory and processing for more. I'm impressed with the Intel Atom processor. The screen is beautiful. The size is quite small. I got a case that is supposed to fit 10" netbooks. This 10.1" is a bit loose in the case. That's due to the seashell design. The seashell allows for a big battery. Unfortunately it makes the computer backside heavy. It does tilt rather easily. I haven't found it to be a problem on a level surface, but on my laptop lap desk it has to be situated in a particular way. I say it's a small price to pay for a sleek and light computer with an incredible battery life. When I run internet (wifi) and MS Word or Celtx, I get a true 10 hours of usage time. After an initial full charging, I ran this netbook to 1% battery life before the first three times I recharged it. When I run it down completely I can recharge completely in 2.5 hours.

Downsides: Understand that this is just a consequence of typical netbook status: 1) The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to. Really, this is no big deal. It's 92% the size of a regular keyboard, and my somewhat larger-than-average male hands have adapted completely in a few weeks. 2) There is no cd/dvd drive. I've installed imaging software and converted programs to ISO files so that I can run them on the netbook. Again, no big deal. The real downside--I can't watch a movie on a plane without an external drive. Those cost about $70. Upside: the integrated audio on the motherboard handles music pretty well. I've heard that Nvidia is creating better hardware for people who want a netbook that will play BluRay quite nicely. Of course there is a price for that. Except for such a capacity, from what I can tell, the Asus Eee PC 1005HA is everything you could want in a very small computer. I had high expectations for this product, based on numerous reviews in various places. I was not disappointed.

The first unit had an immediate problem, but it was readily replaced by the seller (JR), so I don't call that a difficulty. It happens.

The product does not have too much pre-installed junkware, and it does have pre-installed some useful things that I would not have thought of (Parental Control, Privoxy). The BIOS needed update, but this was simple due to the Asus software features.

I like the feel of the keyboard, and the touchpad software control makes it easy to use without getting in my way while I type. The 1024x600 screen can be set, if you wish, so that it is a 1024x600 viewport to a larger 1024x768 desktop, reachable by moving the mouse to the screen edge. This is useful if you have an application that demands a 1024x768 screen. Screen appearance is enhanced by Asus software, and I do like the appearance and visibility in various lighting situations.

Hi..bought this netbook 3 weeks ago with 800Mhz 2 GB RAM and I must say- it does the job!! I am able to do all the stuff I could potentially do on a laptop like Word, web browsing, playing games, watching movies etc. One has to get use to the touchpad and the heavier bottom side of the netbook, other than that I do not see ANY (battery, screen glare, wireless) thing which it promises. I have a Windows 7 RC and XP on my baby and both of them run great! Kudos to Asus!

Ok, this netbook is great, I have never been able to find a better deal. It is perfect, it is exactly what you would expect in a netbook. I got the extra PC6400 ram, and I think that is a must. The battery life is awesome, it just goes and goes and goes, I don't even carry the charger around because I don't have to worry about it. I run Windows 7 on it, which I recommend, works great. Don't expect to be able to play HD video on it though, at least on iTunes or Quicktime, I don't think the others will have much more luck, but you never know. I ordered the ASUS Eee PC because of the reviews I had read on this site. I had already compared specs, but testimonials won me over. I chose the 1005HA-P for the 10.5 hour battery life. I cleaned a lot of the pre-loaded garbage off in order to gain battery life, but I guess I have already loaded enough onto it so that when fully charged, I am getting about 8 hours of battery usage. I also loved the fact that this netbook was upgradable to a 2 gig memory, and I did do so. I did have a problem with the power supply intermittently not working. Amazon.com gave me a decent credit which compensated me for ordering a new power supply myself. I ordered a new one directly from ASUS. I am still searching for a nice little netbook bag, although my netbook came with a sleeve. This is really a awesome little netbook, I just love it. I did my homework and compared all the netbooks out there and this is the one I decided on getting from all the reviews. Hardly NO CONS on the unit and I installed the 2GB Crucial 667Mhz SODIMM memory for only $24 extra and just love the speed and what it does. Plus the battery is unreal, I got over 10 hours on the first charge and I am now on the third charged and used it all week and the weekend. It picks up Hot Spots almost everywhere I go, it seems like there's a Hot Spot almost everywhere in the city and especially at almost all resturants and fast food places where I am. I've had experience with 3 netbooks prior to this and this one made my 4th and by far the best. Battery Life depends on how it's being used (like do you leave it on when you go do something else) but it's much better than it's little brother the Eee PC 900. And does come close to the 10 hours estimated. I did install extra RAM right away so it's maxed out and it's processor is better than the 900's. In one situation my husband who uses a Cricket Broadband adapter could not make a connection on the Eee 900, and I brought this one up to where he was, used his adapter and connected instantly! The ordering through one of Amanzon's sellers (Beach Camera) was as advertised and shipped as promised, well packed and I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again.

I must remind buyer's these are not meant to be a replacement for a full size PC, they don't have CD/DVD drives in them although you can get an external, which I have. They are great for kids learning and some schools allow the students to use them and even submit the assignments on them. One of the Granddaughter's does. They are great for collage students and businesses who need computers for on-the-go that don't have to be full PC's. Our use: 2 of them were given to grand kids to learn computers and do homework. One my husband had in a care center he's in to keep in touch with home using the built in camera and Skype. I use this one for researching in the field, and since we live in a slightly remote location, I take it with me whenever I travel or go to the city shopping.....I can go to a hot spot and check-out what I'm buying and if it's the best deal. I can also find out where gas stations are that carries my kind of gas (E85). The daughter took one of the kids laptops on their long trip with a GPS adapter and used it as a GPS and trip routing. They are nice and small for that. Small, easy to grab and go, and can do your business in places that wouldn't open a full size laptop, easy to take notes on, or keep copies of what your working on from your main PC and continue working on it where ever you are. Arguably the best 10" at the time for the price. I got this one: 1005HA-PU1X-BU (BU=Blue)

It had all the cool features, Wireless N, bluetooth, N280 processor (the fastest one then available), long battery life, easy memory upgrade at a great price.

Wish it had more pixels on the screen, hoping for a 10" 1280x768 some day.

Processor is slow compared to a core 2 duo. Amazingly it runs VmWare and VM's (32-bit ones only), but at about 1/3 the speed of my main laptop (2 GHZ Core 2 Duo). Fine for browsing, but you can tell it is slower.

External Monitors are limited to 1280x1024 maximum. Dual monitor mode works too (you would never figure this out from ASUS' website).

I don't get 10 hours of battery, I work it hard and get 5-7 hrs. High CPU loads with a Targus netbook cooler yields 5 hrs. I never turn off Wi-Fi or the HD either. CPU loads don't seem to affect batt life much which is a good thing. I read somewhere the chipset takes 4x the power the CPU does so that makes sense.

The major con for me is that the hard disk is extremely difficult to upgrade. It is worse than a puzzle box and voids the warranty. You have to futz with tiny ribbon cables, pry apart snapped together plastic, and remove the CPU heatsink to do it. Not recommened at all.

Some Asus models are an easy HD upgrade so this one may surprise people like it did me. I intended to buy one with an easy HD upgrade.

FYI, after all that the seagate momentus 500Gb (5400 SATA) drive works fine, although I was pretty worried the first time I turned it back on.

Shop For ASUS Eee PC 1005HA-PU1X-BU 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook - 10.5 Hour Battery Life

I recently purchased the ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Netbook from Amazon.com. Adorama Camera fulfilled the order. While I like the netbook, it has what I consider to be a major design flaw in that the connection between the netbook and the AC Adapter is loose and sloppy, resulting in an intermittent power connection. In fact, during the first week I owned the netbook, the unit shutdown twice while it was plugged in due to the sloppy power connection. Naturally, I decided to return the netbook. It never crossed my mind that Amazon or Adorama wouldn't allow me to return it based on the problem. Boy, was I wrong. Despite all their self promoting about customer satisfaction, neither Amazon or Adorama will allow me to return the device. Both have pointed me to ASUS. My suggestion, don't buy a computer, laptop, notebook or netbook from Amazon or Adorama.
